How to choose a web development company for your business

Questions to ask a website development company in India or Gurgaon: project evidence, scope, ownership, delivery, maintenance and a useful comparison scorecard.

The useful starting point

Choose a team that can demonstrate relevant work, explain tradeoffs and agree a clear delivery boundary. A polished homepage alone does not establish delivery quality.

Give candidates a concrete problem

Before searching for an agency, write a one-page brief: what your business sells, who visits, what is failing today and what the first release needs to achieve. Include the current URL, an approximate budget and any real deadline. “Make it modern” gives a team little basis for a useful proposal.

If you are hiring in Gurgaon or Gurugram, explain whether in-person meetings are necessary. Local availability can help collaboration, but the delivery process still needs named owners, scheduled reviews and written decisions. A location label does not replace those arrangements.

Ask what the team actually built

Open live examples and ask which parts the provider delivered. A template customization, an internal demonstration and a production application are different kinds of evidence. All can be useful when described honestly. Ask for a walkthrough of a relevant decision rather than a long list of logos.

For a web app, discuss permissions, failure handling and deployment responsibilities. For a business website, inspect mobile navigation, content clarity and the enquiry path. You can evaluate these without receiving a previous client’s private analytics or account access.

  • What was your responsibility in this project?
  • What constraint changed the implementation?
  • Which part would you approach differently now?
  • Can you show a representative interaction without exposing private data?

Use the same scorecard for every conversation

The following is a suggested decision worksheet, not an industry rating system. Score each item as clear, incomplete or missing, then resolve the gaps before comparing totals. Do not let a slightly cheaper quote conceal an undefined handover.

Use the same scorecard for every conversation — decision worksheet
AreaEvidence to request
Relevant deliveryA working example and an accurate account of the team’s role
ScopeNamed pages, workflows, exclusions and acceptance checks
CommunicationA project owner, review cadence and decision record
OwnershipWritten source, content, domain and hosting arrangements
OperationsMonitoring, backups where needed and a support boundary

Read the proposal as a future operating agreement

Check what happens when content arrives late, an API is unavailable or a requested feature changes. Ask who pays for external subscriptions and whether another developer can maintain the result. A project should leave you with enough access and documentation to make that possible.

Be cautious about promises of guaranteed first place on Google. Ask instead what will be implemented and how progress will be measured. Start with a bounded paid discovery or first release if the requirements are uncertain. The objective is to reduce unknowns before committing to a larger build.

At SliceCode, the useful starting point is your brief and current setup. Our services explain planning ranges and delivery stages; our Work page distinguishes products and demonstrations. Use the same scrutiny with us that you would apply to any other provider.
